I'm thinking about the "R" word today. To me it's almost as negative as the "F" word (though sometimes the "F" word is the only word that works and well...actually it isn't always negative). So, you know the "F" word; I don't need to explain that one. A lot of you use the "R" word so comfortably, but I just don't. Or can't. So I'll say it just once...RESOLUTION. Whew! Way too much pressure in that word.
What I prefer to say is something pleasant and fun sounding like Things I'd Like To Do This Year, or Possibilities This Year (I love the word possibilities; such a promising word) or Ideas For This Year. I don't usually include the date when I write these "ideas" down because that way I can just carry them over from year to year if they don't get done the first year I write them down.
I have a few brand new things this year:
Figure out exactly how much a year it is costing me to live here (it's shocking that I have not done this. I've been drifting along. Bad, bad, girl!)
Decide how long I can live here without being stressed
SELL MY OVERFLOW STUFF
Start my Amazon "bookstore"
Write something in addition to my blog
Make a website on my house (incidentally, I have a $10,000 finder's fee if someone brings me a buyer before I go with a real estate agent which isn't going to be anytime soon. Know anyone who is longing for a rocky Mountain hideaway?)
Learn how to TAKE BETTER PHOTOS!
And if I look back at the ideas and possibilities I wrote...I believe it must have been 2007, there are still plenty of things there to add to this year's list. Looking through my journals I can't seem to find what I wrote last year. I'd love to find that because last year was a really, really, bad year and I'm curious to see how my mind set translated into New Year's ideas. But here are a few from 2007 that are still waiting for my attention:
Start learning my Photo Shop Elements Program (good grief, I can't believe I've had this program installed in my computer this long and have not even looked at it)
Do art every day (probably not going to happen this year either. if I do all this other stuff I won't have the time!)
Meditate more (getting better but still room for improvement)
Make more of my own cards for my friends (might can pull this off)
Practice visualization
Don't wait till the last minute to do everything (Oh. Well.)
Don't you always feel like you can do anything and everything when you're at the starting gate of a brand new year? It becomes a little more difficult to sustain that enthusiasm and sureness as the year progresses, and that's why I think it's important to seize the list of ideas really quickly and knock out some accomplishments. The momentum should then carry us forward and more will get done. I'm sure this is the way it works, though I have yet to actually prove it.
Anyway, this is what I'm thinking about and I fully plan to do more than just think about it.
I really do.
I would love to see what you're putting on your lists, mental or literal....I check your blogs nearly daily...why don't you write about it there, or in the comment area here. Share you guys!
I might get some new ideas.
Cheers!!!

Yep. "Finances" can be good or bad depending on how much money you have. :]

This year is a year of big changes for me I hope. The first off is Alex,my son and I are getting a dog in the next couple of weeks. Then later in the year I'm putting my house on the market and moving by myself, except possibly a dog, to the other end of the counrty to be near the sea. So my R word is to embrace change and not be frightened of it.

Anya, I have two main ideas for the new year. First, to return to practicing yoga. Both for my mind and my body. Second, to get on with my sewing and quilting projects. I have collected a huge amount of fabrics and trims. I have some beautiful projects in mind, but don't have the confidence to work on them, afraid I will make a mess of it. I need to find the courage to just get started!

Firebyrd...how wonderful to be moving to the sea. I love the sea so very much. Moving is such a large but exciting event. "Embrace change and not be frightened by it"...I like the way you stated that and I believe I'll add that to my list because I do need to make changes but it is just so much easier not to.
Oh and a dog... a blessed dog. As soon as I feel I have things worked out or am in a place where keeping a pup would be easier I too will add one to my family.
Judy...you've got the courage in there, you've just gotta dig around and pull it out into the fresh air. Besides....what would really happen if you did mess something up?

Hi Anya...I don't usually make "resolutions"...I make goals. That way, if I miss making them....it doesn't hurt near as bad as missing a resolution. hee hee ':)

Thanks for visiting Anya - it is always delightful reading your comments. In keeping with my goal to spend more to outdoors and camping, you'll be pleased to know that today I bought a "crimson water-repellant conduit-silk pit-zipped retractable hooded molecular protective garment". They used to call them raincoats, remember???

I'm not big on resolutions either, but I seem to be bad with any kind of goal or possibility lately. *Sigh* Is wanting to have better goals a worthwhile goal?
Posted by: J. | January 06, 2009 at 08:29 PM
That should read "more time outdoors". It's the excitment of the purchase I'm sure.

This year I'm "not" going to make a list of my goals and resolutions. I'm not going to think about them, talk about them and plan them endlessly, in minute detail in my head. That's what I've always done.
This year I'm just goin' do them, live them ... be them.
How's that for a resolution.
xo, from S & les Gang
And Judy there's no such thing as a mistake - when you think about it how would we ever learn (or grow) if it weren't for those things we call "mistakes".

Well, Pam, thank goodness it's crimson. Excellent choice on a glum day. And that molecular protective material is great stuff! ha Are they talking about your molecules or the coat's?
J....I am certain the goal of setting better goals is valid. Hey, it's a start anyway. Then when you're ready to actually make a goal, make it dead simple. Something you can't miss like "take vitamins and fish oil caps every day". I'm not kidding; go with a few no brainer goals to practice.
Susan, your resolution is wonderful...the anti resolution resolutions. That's what we all ought to do...just live, do and BE our dreams, because actually resolutions are much like dreams only with a more no-nonsense name.
Mrs. C...most succinctly said!

Im not to good with resolutions, I like to call them lifes little changes.....
I have millions of those floating around me head, its just hard to put most into practise......

I love your resolutions. all very good. O, I'm gonna hunt for someone who wants a house in the mountains! As for a blog for you r home, look at Susan's, it's brilliant.
Good luck with it all.

I agree! No resolutions for me either and I also Love and appreciate the reality of possibility.
I found you via that beautiful black box. I enjoyed you site and plan to return.

There is nothing wrong with not having any resolutions! No pressure! There isnt any reason to pressure yourself into doing something any particular year. It only stresses you out.
I WISH I could come and buy your beautiful home!! I would love to live in the mountains. I live in MN so the weather wouldnt bother me any... I mean its 30 below here right now!

Mmmm....I am studying Susan's blog about her house. I've just got to get that done...and get some photos. Though, the main thing about a blog like that is figuring out how to generate hits from likely people. Make that likely buyers.
I would love for you to find someone to buy my house....hey, that might not be so far fetched, you know, with you up there in No. Colo. I would hand you that finder's fee on a silver platter, I kid you not.
Gayle...yes, the black box is a wondrous little gadget. I am going to put it on my sidebar soon for the enjoyment of my friends. I went over to your blog and I plan to return there too!
Hey, Emily! My god, 30 below...and I've been impressed with 16 below. Hope you've been enjoying your new gun...well practicing at least. I suppose no season is in progress at the moment.

If you want us to find the buyer.... hand out the particulars. Can't find one til we know the nitty gritty details....
I never make resolutions... I like to fly by the seat of my pants I guess....either that or I'm a total lightweight and thinking things to deathjust tires me out. I'm pretty happy with me..no matter what I do ..right or wrong... ... been wrong plenty and lived to tell the tale. I'm sure I'll be doing it all wrong for years to come...so?? why worry about it.? why waste time with lists, plans, resolutions and agonizing over things... I prefer to just get on with the busy-ness of living ....
Posted by: BumbleVee | January 10, 2009 at 05:27 PM
I don't know, Vee. I guess I'm just a plan maker....no make that a plan thinker. I think of them a lot but don't necessarily act upon them. Perhaps I should be more like you...just not make them. Then I wouldn't have to face up to the fact that I never did...never will do them!

I will share my experience. Two years ago I had to go to the Employee Assistant Program, since I had a really hard situation in my home. They treated me great and offered me a lot of psychological help. Thank you!
